Iyar (ēˈyär) is the second month in the religious calendar of the Israelites. This was set by God in Exodus 12:2. This year the month of Iyar begins on April 16 and ends on May 14. This month is associated with the Hebrew word “ziv” which means radiance. It is also tied to the tribe of Issachar. This tribe is associated with understanding of times and secrets. The Hebrew letter of ”vav” is also connected to this month and it is a sign for connections and linking. The month of Iyar is also associated with light.
For Israel this was/is a month of transition. The first month of Nisan was the covenant establishing time of Passover and the exodus out of Egypt. The third month of Sivan is headlined by Pentecost. Iyar is known as the month where God reveals Himself, which gives us increased revelation.
So a group of peoples who had heard stories of the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and even Joseph only had those oral stories until, suddenly, they see the plagues, including Passover, the wealth transfer, the parting of the Red Sea and the elimination of the enemy that was pursuing them.
When they were in the desert for 3 days, they were running out of water and they arrived at Marah only to find the waters bitter. Exodus 15:24 tells us that they complained against Moses. Then Jehovah Rapha, the God Who Heals, comes on the scene to introduce Himself. He told Moses to insert the wood into the water and it was healed.
Then on the 15th of Iyar, Exodus 16:1 tells us they were between Elim and Sinai and again the Israelites began to complain as they were running out of food. So Jehovah Jireh, the Lord who sees and provides, makes Himself known and provides meat in the twilight and bread in the morning (Exodus 16:12).
Later we see in Exodus 17:15, they were attacked by their enemy, the Amelakites. Again God shows up and introduces Himself as Jehovah Nissi, the Lord My Banner of Victory. We see that as long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning the battle. God showed them as long as the arms were raised in praise that victory was theirs.
As we start this month of Iyar with our first fruits, look to Jehovah to reveal new revelations of who He is to you. This is a time not only for revelation of who God is, but a time to understand times and secrets. As we learn more about God and are brought into His presence, He will reveal strategies of the enemy. He will also reveal his own plans for attack for us to use and the perfect timing to use them. Remember, even in an attack God is there and revealing Himself to those who are seeking His presence. Stop complaining! Allow God to show us the new thing that He wants to do!
